Can I have wax removal on the NHS?
In the past the NHS have provided Ear Syringing/Irrigation using pressurised water. At The Ear Clinic we use a modern technique called microsuction, this is a private service and not funded by the NHS. Dependent on your location and GP surgery/ENT dept most are not longer providing wax removal services.
How long does wax removal take?
Depending on the wax it can be very quick, sometimes under 10 minutes and on other occasions can take longer. We allow plenty of time for this but should you need to return, we won’t charge.
How often will I need to be seen?
People have become accustomed to attending various appointments to ensure they maintain a good standard of health and wellbeing. It is considered normal to regularly assess the eyes and teeth, so why are ear and hearing health check-ups less common?
Should I prepare my ears?
1-2 drops of Olive Oil, or use of an Olive Oil spray for the 5 days leading up to the appointment, can help to assist in removing wax on the day. This significantly reduces the need of a follow up appointments.
Is there an age restriction?
At The Ear Clinic Cornwall we only see patients over the age of 18. We would recommend seeking advice from the GP if you have concerns about a child.
